LaVern A. Schauer, 92 years, of Fremont died Saturday, April 21, 2018, at Nye Pointe in Fremont. LaVern was born March 20, 1926, in rural Cedar Bluffs to Andrew and Lucy (Lemke) Schauer.
He grew up at Cedar Bluffs and was a graduate of Cedar Bluffs High School and attended Midland College in Fremont for two years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from Feb. 19, 1945, to Dec. 3, 1946. LaVern farmed all his life on the family farm north of Fremont. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Fremont.
LaVern is survived by a sister, Darlene Hall of Denver, and nine nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Alvin and Harland Schauer; and a niece.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 27, at Salem Lutheran Church in Fremont. The Rev. Chip Borgstadt and the Rev. Sam Payne will officiate. Visitation on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont and continues one hour prior to service on Friday at church. Military honors will be conducted by the Fremont Honor Guard at the church. Burial will be at 1:45 p.m. on Friday at Union Cemetery near Malmo.
