Dale Chesley '57
Longtime Plattsmouth Middle School Principal Dale E. Chesley age 85 of Plattsmouth, NE, was born on May 26, 1931 in Grand Island, Nebraska to Earl and Stella (Cruickshank) Chesley. He passed away peacefully on Friday, February 17, 2017 at the Hillcrest Grand Lodge in Papillion, Nebraska.
His family moved to Central City, Nebraska in 1941 where he graduated from Central City High School in 1949. After graduation, he attended the Nebraska Central College for one year before joining the US Navy. He was discharged from the Navy but was later recalled to serve during the Korean War. After returning home, he was united in marriage to Margaret (Peg) Mewes on December 25, 1954 in Grand Island, Nebraska.
Dale went back to college at Midland Lutheran College in Fremont where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in education. He then furthered his education at the University of Nebraska Lincoln earning his Masters and Specialists degrees in Administration. He first taught in Yutan and served as Principal in Ravena, Arlington and finally Plattsmouth where he served as Middle School Principal from 1967 until retiring in 1991.
Aside from working, Dale enjoyed fishing and camping. He was a longtime member of the First Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Peg) Chesley of Plattsmouth, NE; daughter, Ann (Mike) VanCleve of La Vista, NE; grandchildren, Megan (Mike) Ferring, Lindsey VanCleave, Martha Chesley, brother, Dean (Ann) Chesley of Columbus, NE; sister, Doris (Steve) Anderson of Cozad, NE; sister-in-law, Earlene Chesley of Santa Clara, CA.
He was preceded in death by his son Todd Chesley and brother Bill Chesley.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. at First Lutheran Church, 1025 Ave. D, Plattsmouth, NE with Rev. Lloyd Stuhr officiating.
Visitation will be on Friday, February 24, 2017 from 4;00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. with family greeting friends from 6-8 P.M. at First Lutheran Church.
