Florence E. Phillips, 105, a lifelong resident of McCook, passed away Oct. 13, 2018, at Hillcrest Nursing Home, McCook.
Florence was born on July 21, 1913, to parents Albert B. and Marie J. (Brodbeck) Culton in North Platte. She was one of two children who grew up in North Platte, attended school and graduated from North Platte High School with the class of 1931. Following high school, Florence went on to attend Midland College in Fremont, where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in teaching. She was crowned homecoming queen in 1934.
On Sept. 2, 1946, Florence married the love of her life, Webster “Web” Phillips, in North Platte. The family made their home in McCook and was blessed with two children: Ronald and Karen.
Florence was a member of the First Congregational Church, where she enjoyed Women’s Fellowship and singing in the choir. She was also a member of the Tri T Club and Eastern Star. Florence enjoyed playing cards and was involved in several bridge clubs.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Web Phillips, in 2014; and a brother, Albert (Sara) Culton.
Those left to mourn her passing include her children, Ronald Lee (Dr. Karen Cook) Phillips of Kennewick, Washington, and Karen Evans of McCook; four grandchildren, Michael (Kathy) Evans of Grand Island, Michelle (Scott) Martin of McCook, Sara Evans of Lincoln, and Kailey Phillips of Kennewick; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and a host of extended family members and friends.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 18, at the First Congregational Church, McCook, with Pastor Steve Bales officiating. Florence will be laid to rest next to her husband, Web, at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 18, at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m., with the family greeting friends from 4-6 p.m., today, Oct. 17, at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home, McCook, which is in charge of arrangements.
