Suzanne (Brooks) Jacobs '56

Suzanne JacobsSuzanne Jacobs passed away peacefully on Nov. 14, 2018, at VNA Hospice House of Vero Beach, Florida, surrounded by her loving family.

Suzanne was born Jan. 22, 1935, in the City of Hollywood, California, to parents Mary Frances and Eugene Brooks.

After the death of her father, when Suzanne was 10, she moved to Fremont, Nebraska, with her mother and younger sister, Mary Lou. In Fremont, Suzanne eventually taught and performed dance at her mother’s dance studio for many years. Suzanne graduated from Midland College in Fremont and then moved to New York City to study ballet before joining the advertising agency Benton & Bowles, where she met her husband Michael Marden. Suzanne and Michael raised five children in New York City and Darien, Connecticut, where she was her children’s No. 1 fan in many football, baseball, basketball, soccer, and hockey games. In addition to her children, Suzanne had a love of animals — a trait she passed on to her children — and raised over 10 dogs, including her beloved Cavalier King Charles, Chloe.

Following her divorce from Michael, she went to work with Merrill Lynch Pierce Fenner & Smith in Stamford, Connecticut, starting out as a sales assistant in 1977 and enjoying a long and successful career as a financial consultant. Suzanne retired from Merrill Lynch in 1999 as a Vice President.

After retiring to Vero Beach, Suzanne married Charlie Jacobs in 2005. Suzanne and Charlie moved to Indian River Estates in 2010, and were active members of the Vero Beach Yacht Club, the Vero Beach Power Squadron, and St. Augustine Church. Suzanne also continued her love of the theatre through her seasoned attendance at Vero Beach’s theatres, Riverside Theatre and the Vero Beach Theatre Guild. Suzanne and Charlie also continued summering in New England, primarily on Charlie’s boat and their beach cottage in Fairfield, Connecticut.

Suzanne is survived by her loving husband Charlie; her sister, Mary Lou Diers (Charlie) of Fremont, Nebraska; her children, Scott Marden of Pompano Beach, Florida, David Marden of Brooklyn, New York, Christopher Marden of Lake Worth, Florida, Michael Marden of Gunnison, Colorado, and Sarah Guidotti of Bali, Indonesia. Suzanne’s four grandchildren are Ellis and Theo Guidotti, Nicholas Marden, and Hannah Morales.

A memorial service will be held at St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church, on Saturday, Nov. 17, at 11 a.m., located at 475 43rd Ave., Vero Beach, Florida.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church, 475 43rd Ave., Vero Beach, Florida 32968.
