Alan T. (Al) Seagren '51
Alan T. (Al) Seagren, 86, of Lincoln, passed away in his home on November 27, 2018. He was born on February 24, 1932 in Wausa, Nebraska to Theodore & Elsie (Larson) Seagren. He graduated from Wausa High School in 1949. Al attended Luther College from 1949-1951. He earned degrees from the University of Nebraska Lincoln: B.S. in 1953, M.Ed. in 1958, and Ed.D. in 1962.
Al was a United States Army Veteran, serving in military intelligence during the Korean Conflict. Al married Sharon Krauter on July 30, 1960 in Clatonia, Nebraska. Al and Sharon had two children. Eric was born in 1962 and Tracy was born in 1965. He retired after over 50 years of dedicated service to the University of Nebraska. His roles included Principal of University High School, Director of Summer Sessions, Associate Vice Chancellor of UNL, Vice President of Business for University of Nebraska System, Professional Director of Center of Study of Higher Education at UNL.
Al was a lifelong learner and educator, continuing to teach graduate classes throughout his career. Al was also an international visiting professor in Japan, China, Australia, Sweden, Thailand and Guam; supervising individuals from Australia, China, Guam, and from Japan while they earned their Doctorates. He was very active in various church and educational organizations including Tabitha, Midland University, ELCA National Church Council, Trinity Lutheran Seminary, Augsburg Fortress Publishing, and College and University Partnership Program.
Survived by his wife Sharon of Lincoln, son Eric (Jennifer Becker) Seagren of Hancock, MI, daughter Tracy (Dean) Way. Grandchildren Birk Seagren, Ingrid Seagren, Quentin Fortney, Emma Fortney, Chris Way, Kyle Way. Great grandson Franklin Way. Sister Eloise Sward of Sully, IA, brother-in-law Kenneth Krauter of Lincoln. Preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Robert Sward, & sister-in-law Sonja Krauter.
Memorial Service 11:00 am Friday, November 30, 2018 at First Lutheran Church 1551 South 70th St. Visitation 4:00-7:00 pm, Thursday, with family present 5:00-6:00 pm. Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home 6800 So. 14th St. In lieu of flowers memorials to Alan T.
