Carmon Delwin Jackson, 86, of Fergus Falls, died Wednesday, December 5, 2018, at Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls.
Carmon Delwin Jackson was born September 21, 1932, to Algot Walter and Minnie (Tedin) Jackson, on a farm near Rosholt, South Dakota, in a two-room shanty house about five miles from town. He was raised on a farm and attended rural elementary school at Whiterock Township “6” East. He attended the West Central School of Agriculture in Morris, MN, graduating in 1950.
In 1951 he joined the U.S. Air Force and was a member of the Air Force Security Service with training in teletype and cryptography. He served three years in Germany receiving an honorary discharge in November of 1954.
Carmon attended Luther Junior College in Wahoo, Nebraska, 1955 through 1957, majoring in Theology. From 1957-1958 he attended Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter majoring in Social Work. He graduated from Moorhead State College in June 1962 with a major in Psychology and a minor in Sociology.
After college he was employed with McCloud County Welfare Department as a social worker. In October 1963 he began his employment at the Otter Tail County Welfare Department as a social worker. He was employed as a Director of Big Stone County Social Service Department in Ortonville from 1967 through 1970. He worked at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls as a Coordinator of Services and an Administrative Assistant from 1970 to 1978. In May of 1978, he became the Administrator of Pioneer Home, Inc. of Fergus Falls, retiring December 31, 1996.
Carmon married Audrey Rinke on October 18, 1958, in Wheaton, MN, at St. John’s Lutheran Church. To this union, three children were born. Spending time with his family was very important to him.
Carmon was a member of First Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls where he served on the church council; YMCA – Y’s FOLK president 2004 & 2014, American Cancer Society Relay for Life, Jaycees, Toastmasters, Fergus Falls Noon Rotary – President 1986-1987 (Dist. Gov. Rep 1994-1996), Benevolent Order of the Elks, life member of VFW Post 612, and entered in the 1968 publication of “Outstanding Young Men of America”.
He served on the Board of Directors for: MAHA (MN Assn Homes for Ageing), West Central Mental Health Center of Willmar, Chairman of Ottertail County Day Activity Association, Chair of Lake Region Halfway Homes Inc. Fergus Falls, Lake Region Rehab Industries, Advisory Board for Lake Park Wild Rice Children’s Home, Quality and Regulation Committee for MN Assn Homes for Ageing and Midwest Chapter Red Cross.
Carmon enjoyed woodworking, water and snow skiing, fishing, lawn and gardening, golf and playing bridge. He loved to make people smile, whether he was sharing a story, telling a joke, dancing a jig or offering a kind word.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jon; brothers, Leland, Elder and Glenys; step-mother, Mathea (Nelson) Jackson.
Carmon is survived by his wife, Audrey; son, Todd (Jill) Jackson; daughter, Lorri (David) Holt; sister, Deloris (Cal) Bertram; grandchildren, Megan (Daryl) Kugler, Adam (Megan) Barker; Melissa (Steve) Pitts, Hallie (Kirby) Johnson and Cole Jackson; seven great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Service: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 8, 2018 at First Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls
Clergy: Reverend Gretchen Enoch and Chaplain David Strom
Interment: First Lutheran North Cemetery, Fergus Falls
