Phebe Rehbein '45

Phebe Ann (Sellhorn) Rehbein, 94 years, of Fremont died Monday, Jan. 29, 2018, at the Cove House in Lincoln. Phebe was born May 16, 1923, at North Bend to Herman and Mary (Watt) Sellhorn. She joined a family of six brothers and sisters. Ralph, Luthera (Sally), Kathryn, Bernice, Doris and Agatha and later became a big sister to brother, Willis.

She graduated from North Bend High School in 1941 and went on to study teaching at Midland Lutheran College in Fremont. Following graduation from Midland in 1945, she taught high school Social Science for two years at Hooper.

Phebe married Raymond Rehbein on June 10, 1947, at North Bend and began the remainder of her life as a wife and mother. They brought four children into the world, Karen, David, Nancy and Randy, and farmed between North Bend and Dodge. The couple moved into North Bend in 1987. Ray died Aug. 16, 2004, and Phebe moved into Fremont in 2008.

Phebe and Ray attended the Webster and North Bend Presbyterian Churches and Phebe was active in the United Presbyterian Women in North Bend.

During their time on the farm, she was active in the Dodge County Extension Clubs and was always available to help a neighbor. After Ray’s retirement, she became active in the Ruth Chapter 119, Order of Eastern Star and they volunteered at the Masonic Eastern Star Home for Children in Fremont.

Phebe is survived by her children, Karen Dorian, David (Ann) Rehbein, Nancy (Stan) Vala and Randy Rehbein (fiance, Loretta Tucker); nine grandchildren, Debra (Mike), Scott (Tarrah), Chris, Jennifer (Mike), Justin (Karamie), Brock (Audra), Amanda, Tyler and Makayla; and 12 great-grandchildren, Masie (Ian), Emilie, Averie, Garrett, Devin, Greyson, Camille, Kendall, Owen, Hailey, Sierra and Gemma.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers and sisters.

The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. The Rev. Bill Gepford will officiate. Visitation with family receiving friends on Thursday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Burial will be at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont. Memorials may be directed to the family for a charity yet to be determined.
