Rolland 'Rollo' Adolph DeBower

DeBowerRolland 'Rollo' Adolph DeBower, 82, of Columbus, died Oct. 14, 2018, at the Columbus Community Hospital.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 17, at St. Luke's United Church of Christ in Columbus, with the Rev. Adam Lassen officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 16, at Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Wednesday at the church. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday at the church. Private family interment will be in the Schuyler Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the church.

Rolland 'Rollo' DeBower was born Feb. 13, 1936, in Schuyler, to Elvin and Irene (Kluck) DeBower. Rollo attended Immanuel Lutheran Grade School and graduated from Schuyler High School in 1953. He then attended Midland Lutheran College in Fremont for one year. On June 1, 1957, Rollo was united in marriage to Carol Ann Connerley. Rollo moved to Columbus in 1960. On Jan. 24, 1981, Rollo was united in marriage to Joyce (Fitch) Bessire.

Rollo worked for Behlen Manufacturing as a service manager from 1958 until retiring in 1998. He helped his brother Carrol on the farm for a few years. Rollo was a member of St. Luke's United Church of Christ, where he served as an usher and trustee. He enjoyed Big Band music, going to Lawn Chairs on the Square, watching Husker football, bowling, pool league, playing Sheepshead, and woodworking. In 2017, Rollo was named Columbus Senior Citizen Bowler of the Year. Rollo loved attending his grandchildren's activities.

Rolland is survived by wife, Joyce DeBower of Columbus; son Richard (Mary) DeBower of Schuyler; daughter Rolla Jean DeBower of O'Neill, son Ross (Pam) DeBower of Columbus; son Mike (Stephanie) Bessire of Ada, Oklahoma; daughter Sheryl (Dennis) Heath of Minden; son Todd (Faith) Bessire of Missouri Valley, Iowa; daughter Stacey (Lee) Sanders of Omaha; 28 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister-in-law Shirley DeBower of Vancouver, Washington.

Rolland was preceded in death by parents Elvin and Irene DeBower, and brother Carrol DeBower.
