Ruth V. (Hoog) Crowel

Ruth CrowelRuth V. Crowel, 77 of Holdrege, Nebraska, passed away on Friday, November 17, 2017 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. She was born August 10, 1940 in Holdrege, to Elmer L. and Agnes V. (Anderson) Hoog. She attended school in Holdrege, and graduated from Holdrege High School with the class of 1959. She then pursued higher education, and received her Associate degree in Business from Luther Junior College at Wahoo, Nebraska.

On July 17, 1971, she was united in marriage to Lee L. Crowel, in Holdrege and to this union one son was born, Matthew. The couple made their home in Delphi, Indiana where they lived their entire married life.

She was employed by the Delphi Community School Corp for four years, and was a homemaker. After Lee passed away on December 14, 1994, Ruth moved to Holdrege, where she was employed at the ASCS Office for 10 years.

Ruth helped organize, and was a charter member of the Little Hoosier Chapter in Indiana, Little People of America. She was a member of the Hickory Grove Church near Delphi, Psi Iota Xi Sorority, and in 1982, won the George Award. She enjoyed needlework, and dearly loved her family, and spending time with them.

Besides her parents and husband, Lee, she was preceded in death by a sister, Lowe White and her husband, Kenneth; four brothers: Rev. George Hoog, Rev. Winton Hoog, Mark Hoog and his wife, Vivan, Clair Hoog; and a granddaughter, Savannah Mae Crowel.

Ruth is survived by her son, Matthew Crowel and his wife, Heidi of Anna, Texas; sisters-in-law: Judy Hoog of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Ruth Hoog of Higganen, Connecticut; four grandchildren: Presley, Isaiah, Riley, and Katie Crowel; brother-in-law Brice Crowel and his wife, Judy of Delphi; sister-in-law, Phylis Mazika and her husband Mike of La Jolla, California; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will take place at Abbott Funeral Home, Inc. in Delphi at a later date. Inurnment will be held in the Hickory Grove Cemetery, rural Delphi.

A memorial has been established in Ruth’s honor, and will be designated at a later date.
