Sandra Groeltz '64


Sandra L. Groeltz, 82, of Glenview, passed away on December 21, 2024. She was born July 16, 1942 in Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of Charles H. "Chic" Groeltz and Alvina (Dickman) Groeltz. She is survived by daughter Erinn (Zac) Hernandez, grandchildren Alexander and Citlali Hernandez, and sister Janie (Jim) Isch.

Sandie graduated from Midland Lutheran College in Fremont, Nebraska in 1964, with a B.A. in Sociology and Education and continued her education to receive her M.A. in Educational Psychology from the University of Nebraska 1969. After a long career in education, Sandie returned to receive her M.Div. Degree in Pastoral Counseling, graduating from Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary in Elkhart, Indiana in 2011.

A teacher, teacher trainer, professor of psychology, grant writer, counselor, and most recently chaplain, Sandie worked hard to educate and help others her entire life. She was passionate about her beliefs and stood strong in her faith in Jesus Christ and the power of prayer. She was a strong, courageous woman who overcame many challenges in her life and never gave up.

Sandie loved music, especially jazz, and was an accomplished pianist. She loved a night out at a classical concert or jazz festival. Sandie was a devoted mother and grandmother. She adored her grandchildren and every moment spent with them.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, January 26 at 2:00pm at N.H. Scott & Hanekamp Funeral Home, 1240 Waukegan Road, Glenview. A private family burial will take place at Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington, Iowa.
