Sharon SeagrenSharon Ann Krauter Seagren was born September 2, 1937, in Beatrice, NE, the daughter of Orris C. and Vera Kracke Krauter. They resided on a farm 3 ½ miles north of Clatonia, NE. She was baptized at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wilber, NE and confirmed at Salem Methodist Church in Clatonia, NE. Sharon attended Clatonia Public Schools where she played softball and volleyball, and graduated in 1954. She then attended Doane College and graduated in 1958. Her first teaching position was at Walnut Junior High School in Grand Island, NE. There she met Alan T. Seagren, who was Vice Principal at the time. They were married on July 30, 1960, at the Clatonia Salem Methodist Church.

Sharon and Al both attended the University of Nebraska – Lincoln (UNL), where Sharon earned a Master’s in Education and Al earned his Doctorate in Education. Sharon taught at Irving Junior High School while they lived in Lincoln. Following their graduations from UNL they moved to Fort Collins, CO where Al was a Professor of Education at Colorado State University. While in Fort Collins their son Eric was born on December 14, 1962. After a year they returned to Lincoln, where Al became Principal of University High at UNL. Their daughter Teresa (Tracy) was born in Lincoln on January 5, 1965.

Sharon returned to teaching in the 1970’s, and taught physical education at McPhee and Brownell Elementary Schools. She retired in 1997. Sharon enjoyed going to their cabin in the summertime, bowling, and playing cards with friends.

Sharon was an active member of PEO and served a variety of offices. She also was a TeamMates mentor with Lincoln Public Schools, a member of a Random Acts of Kindness group, past co-president of the Sheridan PTA, served on the YMCA Camp Kitaki Board, and was a Girl Scout Leader.

She completed several family histories and placed them in the Nebraska Historical Society. Sharon also wrote narratives for the book, “Swedes, Danes and Norwegians, Oral Histories of NE”, edited by Donald P. Skoog.

Sharon is survived by her children: Eric A. Seagren (Jennifer Becker) and Teresa (Tracy) Way (Dean); her brother Kenneth O. Krauter and sister-in-law Eloise Sward; grandchildren: Emma Fortney, Quentin Fortney, Ingrid Seagren, Birk Seagren, Kyle Way and Chris Way, and one great grandchild: Franklin Way. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Alan T. Seagren; sister-in-law Sonja (Kenneth) Krauter; and brother-in-law Robert (Eloise) Sward.

Visitation 5:00-7:00 pm, Monday, January 31, 2022, at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home 6800 So. 14th St. Memorial Service 11:00 am Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at First Lutheran Church 1551 South 70th St. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to one of the following charities are encouraged: The Alan T. Seagren Associate Professorship in Education at the University of Nebraska Foundation; The Landing Scholarship Fund; and the PEO International Scholarship Fund
