Services for Shirley Heier, 85, Lincoln, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church in Lincoln.
Visitation will be from noon until 9 p.m. Thursday at Butherus, Maser and Love Funeral Home with the family present from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.
She died Monday, May 8, 2017, at Tabitha Good House in Lincoln.
Shirley June Larsen was born June 23, 1931, in Bostwick, to Howard and Mildred (Day) Larsen. She graduated from Superior (Nebraska) High School in 1949 and Grand Island Business College in 1950.
She married Harlan Frederick Heier on June 28, 1953, in Ruskin. Shirley worked briefly outside the home before her oldest children were born and after her youngest children started school, but her chief vocation was as a homemaker.
She also supported Harlan’s career in the Lutheran ministry, serving as a choir member, Sunday school teacher, women’s group leader, or wherever else she was needed in congregations in Davenport, Iowa, and Verdon, Schuyler, York and Newman Grove, all in Nebraska. They have belonged to First Lutheran Church of Lincoln since 1997.
Survivors include her spouse, Harlan of Lincoln; her children, Craig Heier of Lincoln, Beth (Neal) Lurz of Leawood, Kan., Keith (Pam) Heier of Kenesaw, Joyce (Dan) Templeton of Omaha, Kent (Janice) Heier of St. Joseph, Mo., and Deanne (Paul) Scheel of Waverly; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her sisters, Eleanor (Charles) Stiles of Superior, Joanne (Jim) McChesney of Lincoln and Kathleen (Hugo) Westphal of Syracuse; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and stepmother, Beulah Larsen; her in-laws, Fred and Lena Heier; and grandson Ryan Lurz.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorials be directed to First Lutheran Church of Lincoln, Tabitha of Lincoln or Lincoln Community Playhouse.
