Shirley J. Eng­strom '56

Shirley J. Eng­strom, 82, passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at Friendship Haven, Fort Dodge.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Sunday, October 21, 2018 at Faith Lutheran Church in Harcourt with Pastor Rod Meyer officiating. Burial will be in Lost Grove Township Cemetery near Harcourt. A visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Palmer Funeral Home, Gowrie.

Shirley is survived by her son, James (Kim) Engstrom of Harcourt; Linda (Dean) Rambow of Lindstrom, MN; Nancy (Todd) Clay of Callendar; grandchildren, Austin Engstrom; Heidi (Richard) Hall; Lincoln Clay and brother, Bruce Nelson of Peoria, AZ.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Stella (Stewart) Nelson; husband, Elery; daughter-in-law, Brenda and brother, Marvin Nelson.

Shirley Joanne Nelson was born November 10, 1935 in Fort Dodge. She graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School and then attended Midland College in Wahoo, NE. On July 14, 1957, Shirley was united in marriage to Elery Engstrom. Besides helping Elery farm, Shirley worked various jobs. She worked at the Smith’s Meat Market in Gowrie, Warehouse Market in Fort Dodge, Blue Willow in Harcourt and CJ Banks. Shirley and Elery loved to dance, especially at the Bohemian Hall. Shirley was a traveler; enjoyed camping with her family, bus trips and even took a few cruises. She enjoyed baking for her family and friends, who loved eating her rye breads and tea rings. She was a dedicated volunteer at Friendship Haven, an active member of Faith Lutheran Church and a member of the WELCA. She will be dearly missed by her family, which was the most important thing in her life.

Memorials may be left to the family’s discretion.
