Shirley Larson, 90, of North Platte, Nebraska passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Shirley was born on July 2, 1932 in Omaha, NE the daughter of Clarence Albert and Pearle Minerva Josephine (Johnson) Holsten. She graduated from Central high school in Omaha, NE and from the Immanuel Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse. She met and married the love of her life Dr. Dwight Larson in Omaha on December 12, 1953, and together they had three daughters, Leanne, Jane, and Sandra. She worked alongside her husband Dwight in his medical practice as his surgical and obstetrics nurse for many years. Shirley was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Platte. She was a past president and senior emeritus of the Chamber Hostesses, 50-year member and past president of the Chapter AK PEO, 30-year member and past board member of Heartland Singers, and a past president of the Monday Musical. She was also active in the following organizations over the years, Rainbow Girls, New Beginnings, Lincoln County Medical Alliance, Aquacise group Water Lilies, and the Red Hat Society.
She was preceded in death by her parents; niece, Stacy Hutson; and nephew, Jim Plate.
Those left to celebrate her memory are her husband of 69 years, Dr. Dwight Larson; daughters, Leanne (Bruce) Elder of Kearney, Jane (David) Kwiatkowski of Kearney, and Sandra (Dirk) Gray of McCook; grandchildren, Chad (Ashley) Elder, Sarah Polter, Jared Polter, Kade Gray, and Joel Gray; great-granddaughter, Emma Elder; brother, Robert “Bob” (Mary) Holsten of Carmel, Indiana; nieces, Becky Plate, Sara Clark, and Alison (Rick) Bond; nephew, Jeff (Donna) Holsten; along with other extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 5, 2023 at First Lutheran Church with Pastor Patrick Sipes officiating. Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Fort McPherson National Veterans Cemetery near Maxwell in honor of her husband Dwight’s military service during WWII. Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 3-5 p.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which has been entrusted with the arrangements.
