An internship with the Fremont Family YMCA has transformed into a 14-year career for Kylie (Hoefer) Brown ‘10.

Kylie serves as the Director of the Before and After School Care program at the YMCA. An internship while she was a student at Midland opened the door for her career path. “Through my internship, I was familiar with the ins and outs of the YMCA,” Kylie said. “Eight months after graduation, the position for director of the Before and After School program became available. I wasn’t sure I wanted to apply, but thanks to some strong supporters, I did apply and just started my 14th year. I had professors who had a huge impact on my life. They helped me grow as a student, but more importantly, as a strong, respectful human being.”

She arrived at Midland from Elgin, Nebraska, and loved the “small town feel” that Midland offered. “It felt like home,” she said. “What I enjoyed most about Midland was the lifelong friends I made through basketball. One of my fondest memories was my trip to Australia. That was one of the neatest experiences I have ever had.”

Kylie lives in Fremont with her husband, Darren (they met through Farmersonly.com) and their three children, Alvin (4), Nicklin (2), and Walker (eight months). She enjoys being outdoors, sports, playing with her kids, and hunting with her husband.
