Midland University announced its collaboration with Apple and an intentional program investment to create digital solutions for innovative teaching and learning as part of the new Midland 1:1 program in 2018.

Rooted in the university’s relentlessly relevant vision, the program initiative aims to enhance learning and embrace the digital experience of already tech-engaged classrooms by providing faculty and students with the latest Apple iPad technology.

Mindful of existing technology integrations in K-12 classrooms, the Midland 1:1 program centers on the university’s institutional core value of learning and developing citizens who can respond to an ever-changing world — one that is dependent on technology.

“Many of our students come to Midland from technology-rich environments,” said Susan Kruml, Vice President for Academic Affairs. “We believe in order to continue supporting their educational excellence at the collegiate level, our investment in innovative technology is essential. This initiative will empower creative teaching and learning across every program, department, and organization for dynamic impact.”

Beginning fall of 2019, every full-time, undergraduate Midland student at the Fremont location will receive an Apple iPad and Apple Pencil. The devices will be provided at no cost to students and considered part of their Midland education, thanks in part to generous donor support. Faculty and select staff members will also be issued devices and begin training in January.

“Earning a college education is an incredible opportunity,” said Jody Horner, Midland University President. “We know that students come from a variety of backgrounds and their access to technology varies. Our goal with this program is to ensure all students have the technological tools to succeed.”

Removing the constraints of the typical classroom, Midland students will have the ability to utilize the iPad devices to access learning resources and recreational applications from anywhere. Additional program benefits include personalized learning, improved collaboration, enhanced technological and digital fluency, greater connectivity and mobility, as well as better preparation for success in an increasingly digital world.

Driven by an ambition to achieve recognition as the first Apple Distinguished School in Nebraska, the new program investment represents the university’s consistent positive progression over the years. Recent milestones include; recognition by the Chronicle of Higher Education as the 9th fastest-growing private, nonprofit baccalaureate institution in the country, achieving record enrollment in August, as well as several multi-million dollar investments to campus spaces that foster academic success.
