Midland University Dance Program | Women of Midland

The Midland University Dance Program has had a streak of success starting in 2013 at the NDA (National Dance Alliance) competition in Daytona. Midland’s team took home first place, which was only the beginning of several national championship appearances. Midland’s two national titles in 2015 were the last NDA titles that Midland would receive, but only the beginning of the team’s success. In 2017 tha NAIA officially recognized dance as a collegiate sport, which took the dance competitions to the next level. An honor was bestowed on the 2017 Midland Dance coach, Trish (Ryan) Cristiano as the inaugural coach of the year- a significant honor. In 2019 Midland’s dance team took home yet another national championship through the NAIA. This year, the dance team has another shot at taking home another national championship as they compete March 10-11th. The NAIA is the only athletic association that offers a national championship in this sport.

The current dance program consists of four different teams. The Warrior Wildfire Competition Team, which represents Midland University in the NAIA as an official athletic team. Warrior Wildfire has a rich history of National Championship appearances and has brought home six Conference Championships and four National Championship titles. The Game Day dancers perform at Football, Volleyball, and Basketball games throughout the year! These dancers are full of school spirit and have the opportunity to choreograph and perform pom, jazz, hip hop, and lyrical halftime routines. They also work as ambassadors of the program, attending events and appearances within the community. The Premier Dance Company is a hand-picked group of dancers who are passionate about performing, choreography, and teaching. These dancers will have the opportunity to travel to studios to teach master classes, lead classes on campus, and participate in performances on and off-campus. And finally, the Midland Dance Company members take weekly technique classes throughout the year and have multiple performance opportunities in all areas of the arts! Opportunities include Homecoming events and performances, dance video projects, Colors of Christmas, Festival of the Arts, musicals, and the Spring Dance Showcase.
