Alumni Spotlight: Nick Blake '72
His time at Midland University helped pave the way for Nick Blake ‘72 to enjoy a long and successful career in the education field.
Blake arrived at Midland with the opportunity to play football and wrestle. He quickly fell in love with the campus and community, and enjoyed the small class sizes. “It was impossible to not be known by your professors,” he said. “They made sure I did what I needed to be successful in their class.”
He took what he learned during his time at Midland and turned it into a 37-year career with Bellevue Public Schools. He enjoyed many different roles during that time, teaching physical education, fourth grade, and reading before eventually becoming an elementary school principal. His final stop with BPS was as Director of Assessments and School Involvement before retiring.
Blake said his work as an elementary principal is something he is very proud of, and that Midland helped foster his talents as an educator. “Midland provided me with the self-confidence to do anything I put my mind to.”
